Resident. Locally common throughout the British Isles.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2013 at Commins Coch in the west of the county. Since which there have been several scattered records from across the county.

Wingspan :   M & F 5-6mm.

Confusion species

Many species of Stigmella are very similar. One of the best ways of separating them is to examine the type of leaf-mine in the foodplant.
Flight time & Voltinity (Bivoltine)

Habitat

Wherever the foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Beech.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on either side of leaf. Larva produces a slender gallery with linear frass, but the frass becomes coiled after the first moult more irregular later on. Pupates in a pale yellow cocoon.
